breaking a term deposit early
a guide to penalties for breaking a term deposit early
The penalties vary between financial institutions, however as a minimum any interest that has not yet already been paid to you (via a regular installments calculated on your term deposit rate) will be withheld. Interest rate installments typically do not apply to terms less than 12 months.
Additionally, some institutions will deduct a penalty fee from the original principal. This fee could be a set dollar value or a percentage of your investment.
A request for a partial withdrawal is not usually an option banks will entertain.
